Saudi Arabia and Greece have solidified their commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors, with a particular focus on energy, investment, and security. This development comes as Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met in Riyadh to commemorate a century of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

During their meeting, both leaders stressed the significance of safeguarding international shipping routes and ensuring a steady energy supply. They voiced concerns over attacks on energy infrastructure, which could disrupt global energy markets and economic stability. Greece lauded Saudi Arabia’s initiatives to stabilize oil markets and secure dependable supply routes, such as the East-West Pipeline.

A key element of their discussions was energy collaboration. The two countries agreed to hasten the development of an electricity interconnection project aimed at facilitating power exchanges between Saudi Arabia and Europe via Greece. They also explored the potential for exporting clean hydrogen from Saudi Arabia to Greece and other European Union markets, alongside investments in renewable energy, conventional energy, and petrochemicals.

Beyond energy, the nations pledged to expand economic ties in infrastructure, construction, logistics, and technology, with bilateral trade reaching approximately $1.7 billion in 2025. Digital connectivity was another priority, with both sides noting progress on the EMC submarine cable project, which aims to enhance communications infrastructure between East and West.

Saudi Arabia invited Greek companies to invest in the Kingdom and participate in significant development initiatives, such as Riyadh Expo 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup. Meanwhile, Greece encouraged Saudi investors to explore opportunities in transport, energy, logistics, digital infrastructure, and advanced technologies.

In addition, both countries agreed to bolster their defence and security cooperation, focusing on areas such as counterterrorism, cybersecurity, intelligence sharing, and professional training. They reaffirmed their commitment to international climate agreements and expressed support for collaboration in carbon management, artificial intelligence, space technology, healthcare, education, tourism, and culture.

This dialogue builds on the strategic partnership council established in 2022, underscoring the growing importance of Saudi-Greek relations in energy security, international trade, and regional connectivity.
