UAE and Saudi Arabia Renew Military Support Against Houthis in Yemen

by admin477351

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia are intensifying their efforts to counter the Houthi forces in Yemen, following reports of renewed financial and military support. The UAE has agreed to resume financial assistance for Yemeni government forces, while Saudi Arabia has committed to providing air support for the coalition fighting against the Houthis. This development comes as both nations face increasing security concerns due to the Houthi advances and attacks in the region.

The cooperation between the UAE and Saudi Arabia marks a potential improvement in their bilateral relations, which have previously been strained over differing views on Yemen’s political future and the role of southern separatist groups. The UAE had previously withdrawn its involvement in Yemen in January after supporting and training several southern military units.

Yemen’s internationally recognized government has launched a counteroffensive to reclaim territory near Marib and the strategically important Bab al-Mandab Strait. Despite these efforts, progress has been limited amid ongoing conflict and security threats.

Further complicating the situation, Saudi Arabia has been subject to drone and missile attacks attributed to the Houthis, escalating regional tensions. In response, Egypt has expressed a willingness to consider defensive measures to protect Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom is evaluating requests for additional military assistance.

The conflict continues to exacerbate Yemen’s humanitarian crisis, with more than 200,000 people displaced since August, adding pressure on humanitarian organizations involved in providing emergency aid.
