Saudi Arabia and Serbia are strengthening their economic and diplomatic ties by pursuing closer collaboration in various sectors such as energy, technology, agriculture, food industries, and trade. Recent discussions between the two nations have focused on potential joint ventures in energy and information and communications technology. Additionally, both countries are examining ways to enhance agricultural cooperation and encourage Serbian businesses to enter the Saudi market while increasing Saudi investments in Serbia.
In a significant move to facilitate official exchanges, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric met in Belgrade to sign an agreement that waives visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This development is expected to pave the way for more official interactions between the two countries.
Trade relations between Saudi Arabia and Serbia have been on an upward trajectory. The bilateral trade volume reached $121 million in 2025, which is nearly nine times the amount recorded in 2012. The first half of 2026 saw this trade value rise to $130.4 million, marking a 152% increase compared to the same period the previous year. These figures underscore the growing economic engagement between the two nations.
Looking ahead, the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh are anticipated to offer further opportunities for investment and business partnerships. Saudi Arabia has confirmed its participation in the Belgrade event, where it plans to highlight its economic growth, innovation, and cultural and investment prospects. Meanwhile, Serbia is preparing for the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, where more than 50 Serbian companies are expected to participate.
The scope of cooperation extends beyond trade and investment. Both countries are exploring partnerships in science and technology, signaling a comprehensive approach to their bilateral relationship.
