The State of Qatar has strongly denounced the recent assaults by Houthi forces on civilian and economic sites located in southern Saudi Arabia. In a demonstration of unity, Qatar has pledged its full support to Saudi Arabia’s measures aimed at safeguarding its national security and sovereignty. This stance was communicated by Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani during a phone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. During their discussion, the two leaders also explored regional developments and diplomatic strategies to ease tensions and uphold stability in the region.
The Houthi attacks, which have been identified as a serious escalation, targeted several areas including Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran. These incidents resulted in injuries to 73 civilians, among them women and children, and caused temporary disruptions at some energy facilities. Qatar has condemned these actions as violations of Saudi sovereignty and breaches of international law. In response, Doha has urged the international community to take decisive action against the perpetrators and to bolster the enforcement of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions related to the conflict in Yemen and the security of the Red Sea region.
In recent weeks, hostilities between the Houthi factions and Saudi-backed forces have intensified, sparking fears of a broader conflict. The Houthis, who have control over the capital city of Sanaa and vast areas in northern Yemen, have escalated their attacks on Saudi territory and shipping lanes in the Red Sea. Concurrently, forces aligned with the Yemeni government have mounted offensives against territories held by the Houthis, further exacerbating the situation.
