The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong rebuke against the Houthi group’s recent statements targeting Saudi Arabia, which included threats of a maritime blockade. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement urging the global community to enforce United Nations Security Council resolutions related to Yemen and ensure maritime security in the Red Sea.

The UAE ministry emphasized the importance of implementing Resolution 2216, which pertains to Yemen, alongside Resolution 2722, which is focused on safeguarding navigation rights and ensuring freedom of movement in the Red Sea region. These resolutions form a crucial part of the international framework aimed at maintaining stability and security in these waters.

In its statement, the UAE underscored that international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea guarantee freedom of navigation in international waters. This principle is vital for securing the flow of commerce and maintaining peace in strategic maritime corridors.

Furthermore, the UAE reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia, expressing full support for any initiatives the kingdom undertakes to safeguard its security and preserve its stability. The call for international intervention highlights the UAE’s commitment to regional security and its proactive stance against threats that could disrupt maritime activities.
