In a significant move to bolster regional security, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye have resolved to enhance their military and intelligence cooperation in response to escalating Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia. This decision was made following a meeting of the chiefs of staff from the three nations’ armed forces in Riyadh, where they discussed strategies to support Saudi Arabia and improve coordination under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
The agreement, signed in August, mandates that an armed attack on any of the three countries be treated as an attack on all, calling for expanded defense cooperation and stronger collective deterrence. This meeting aimed to translate the pact into tangible military and security measures, amidst a backdrop of increased Houthi aggression that extends to Saudi-linked interests and key infrastructure.
Besides their impact on Saudi Arabia, the Houthi attacks have also raised alarms over regional security due to their strikes against shipping lanes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. These developments underscore the strategic importance of the trilateral defense collaboration in countering threats and maintaining stability in the region.
Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman also held separate talks with Pakistan’s army chief, Asim Munir, focusing on the recent assaults and exploring ways to reinforce joint defense initiatives. The discussions are part of a broader effort by the three nations to integrate their defensive capabilities more effectively.
