Tensions in the Middle East have escalated once again as Yemen’s Houthi group launched missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia. Reports from Riyadh described flames and thick black smoke rising near King Khalid International Airport, where a fuel tank caught fire. Saudi Arabia’s military coalition responded swiftly, claiming its air defenses intercepted a missile aimed at the capital. The coalition later declared the area safe after the immediate threat had been neutralized.
The Houthis stated that their offensive was a direct response to Saudi military actions in Yemen, accusing Saudi forces of carrying out hundreds of airstrikes in recent days. This escalation has heightened fears over the safety of civilian and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, with the UN Security Council condemning the attacks and urging measures to curb the Houthi’s access to weapons and military support.
