A significant initiative focused on enhancing food security in Yemen has been launched through a collaboration between Saudi Arabia’s KSrelief and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. The two entities have pledged a total of $10 million to support this project, which is designed to aid vulnerable communities and bolster long-term resilience in the region.
As part of the agreement, each party will contribute $5 million to the project, which will be carried out by the UN World Food Programme. The targeted areas for this initiative include the governorates of Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij. The effort aims to distribute conditional cash transfers as a means to enhance food accessibility, rebuild productive infrastructure, and assist families in moving from emergency food aid towards becoming more self-sufficient.
In addition to direct food aid, the project will offer vocational training, bolster local governance, and promote sustainable management of community assets. This multifaceted approach is intended to not only address immediate food needs but also to lay the groundwork for lasting improvements in community resilience and governance.
This project is part of a larger humanitarian initiative by Saudi Arabia through KSrelief, which has been active in delivering aid across the globe. Since its inception in 2015, KSrelief has executed over 4,400 aid projects, amounting to more than $8.5 billion in 113 different countries. This ongoing commitment underscores Saudi Arabia’s dedication to addressing humanitarian needs worldwide.
